New Work

More About The Artist ...................

John Horne believes his
studies in dance provided
the chance to create a synergy
between his subjects, the
dancestudio & the work he
creates on paper. Because of
his work, as an Arts
Programmer & Administrator for the
Fulton County Arts Council, Executive Director of the Cherokee County Arts Council and more recently an Art Instructor and Freelance Graphic Designer, John has had to maintain a reasonable comfort level balancing his art with various computer graphics programs. Still he remains terribly 'old fashioned' when it comes to working in his studio.

"I once thought I'd never embrace a desire to create digital works... that has since changed. The fact is, art is a holistic process. The tactile stimulation of scratching paper with pen -or- pencil enables the process to be alive, with the results determined as much by the pigment as by the manner in which the surface reacts to this invasive intrusion. All to the rhythmic, and sometimes haunting sounds (such as, Loreena McKinnett's compositions) setting the pace and tone for each project. There is something in this that's difficult to explain. It may be just tradition giving way to progress, but it's become easy for me to create the relationship with my work using a new, albeit dispassionate tool, such as a computer. But that is just me, I can not speak for others - I'm sure, most of my artist-friends are glad that I accept that fact!"

John lives in a modest home, in the Southwest USA (Woodstock, Georgia) with his soul-mate and partner for life, Nancy, supported in everything that he does by their *five (yep, that's 5!) dogs and now three cats. Whenever John needs reassurance -or- seems about to hit new anxiety levels over more small stuff, Rudy, Tess, Emmitt (all Goldens, Ben crossed the bridge as did Delilah, Pilot & Irish a few years back) or Nell (the Dober-girl)  and 'wild-woo-hoo-harry' also known as Boscoe, are there to provide assurance.  To them, the world will keep turning as long as there is water in the bowl, and a few ounces of Kibble (Iams) is regularly available. "It's amazing how they help me keep things in perspective!"

Well, that's enough text about the artist, you came here more to see what he's done than to read about him, so you should move on to the Galleries - or at least to the Artist Statements he's posted for himself and Drake Haley his guest artist.
"I hope you enjoy your visit, and that you will come back often. Please tell your friends about the site and don't forget to register for the newsletter & sign the Guest book, so I'll know you were here!
The 'mad artiste' busy once again...
