Contemporary
Atlanta artist John W. Horne delights dance & portrait enthusiasts the
world over with his dream-like renderings of 'beauty in motion' as
well as the sublime simplicity of his unique portraiture.
Born in rural New York, Horne attended St John Fisher College matriculating
at Nazareth College (Art) in Rochester, NY. After enjoying an
extraordinarily successful seventeen year career in fashion furniture
merchandising & design under the tutelage of Terrance Conran, the
artist turned his attention to fine art. Horne
moved his focus from retail business to arts administration, art instruction
and creating his own work in 1991, in Atlanta, GA
While the artist enjoys working in a variety of styles and mediums, he is
best known for his realistic, figurative, drawings & portraits of subjects
caught 'in the moment'. Horne has served as board officer of four local
Atlanta Arts Organizations, as paid consultant/senior staff member of two
Arts Councils, and as Artistic Director/Producer of a highly successful
annual benefit concert series (1993-02).
Before beginning a piece, Horne fastidiously researches his subjects to
ensure accurate and authentic depiction. The artist attributes his affinity
for realism to his extensive early training in photography & design which
required meticulous attention to detail. His work is on display in a dozen,
permanent exhibits, local Atlanta galleries, and several internet galleries.
Horne is a sought after instructor and private tutor conducting figure &
portrait classes/workshops in the Atlanta Metro area. Several of his
students have gone on to study at Parsons School of Design, Rhode Island
School of Design, Savannah College of Art and overseas study in
Florence Italy.

"...essentially,
the success of this exhibit rests on simplistic beauty and execution. This
is one of the few times I feel I have been able to present a group of images
devoid of extraneous accouterments where in they can and do stand within
their own light ...."
